Via Julia Augusta

The Via Julia Augusta is an ancient Roman route built during the Augustan era, linking Albenga to Alassio. Today it is an easy route accessible to everyone, surrounded by well-preserved archaeological remains, including ancient Roman tombs that can be seen along the way.

The most striking section is the one overlooking the sea, where the view opens out completely towards Gallinara Island, creating one of the area’s most distinctive panoramas.

It is a walk that brings history and landscape together in a natural way: you walk, you observe, and the area tells its own story.

As you walk along the route, you can sense the passage of time between ancient remains and wide-open views of the sea. When to go:

Ideal in the shoulder seasons, especially spring and autumn, when the weather is pleasant and the light enhances the scenery. It can also be visited in summer, but it is best to go early in the morning or late in the afternoon to avoid the heat. On clear days, the sea views are at their best.

Additional Information

A well-signposted panoramic route, mostly on unpaved but level ground, suitable for almost everyone. Only the initial section includes a short uphill stretch to reach the path. It is not suitable for standard pushchairs, but it can also be ridden by trial bike, always taking care around pedestrians.
